For the very first time last year, our children’s church put together an interactive Christmas play for pre- schoolers, and some of them even brought new friends. Based on the same theme of “giving gifts to the King” and inspired by the familiar carol The Little Drummer Boy, the story was conveyed more simply through a combination of drama, songs, and activities that the little ones could engage in.
Even though the time of preparation was short, volunteers stepped up in faith willingly to be part of the team, and God truly provided what was needed to put everything together. In fact, the final cast member only came on board a week before the first rehearsal, and God equipped everyone to play their part, especially the child actors! For some, it was also their first time acting, but they found grace and fulfilment through the journey. The older uncles were very sporting “wise men”, as they found meaning in “sowing seeds” into the lives of the children.
Another amazing testimony the team shared was how God led a church member to lend them higher quality lights for the set at the last moment when things were not working out. The use of lighting really helped direct the children’s limited focus during the shows, and it was heartwarming to see the little ones filled with joy and
laughter! You could hear them singing enthusiastically to familiar tunes like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, A Little Drummer Boy, and A Gift To You (Everything I Am). This made all the hard work worth it. What was even more precious was seeing the little ones respond to receive Jesus, and we are in awe of what God has done!
