Turkey-Greece Bible Study Tour: Once Strangers, Now a Closely-knit Community

by Leah Lee Hui Ling

On 1st October 2024, our group of 40 embarked on a 14-day Bible Study Tour to Turkey and Greece. Though united by our faith in God, we had yet to form any personal connections when we first began our trip. However, as the days went by, we began to experience the power of fellowship in ways we didn’t expect. The CSCC Turkey - Greece Bible Study Tour was a journey that truly embodied the saying we often hear at church, “There are no strangers in Cornerstone, only friends you haven’t met.”

Even though we started as a group of strangers from different backgrounds and representing varying age groups, we quickly evolved into a close-knit community. We shared personal stories of God’s work in our lives, offered encouragement to one another, laughed together, and supported each other through the different moments during the trip.

We spent time reflecting at the Seven Churches in Turkey, and in those moments, God’s presence felt tangible—not just in the Scriptures we studied, but in the fellowship we shared. A special highlight was hearing from Pastor Memos, a local Grecian, as he taught us from the Book of Corinthians, right in the heart of the ancient city of Corinth. The teachings were enlightening, and many of our questions about certain verses were answered. Not only did the teachings leave an impact on us, but so did the bonds we forged. We learned together, grew together, and, most importantly, we loved one another.

When we returned to Singapore, that sense of fellowship didn’t fade. We gathered soon after our return, eager to continue to build the relationships we had started on the trip.

We were excited to see one another at service, often taking pictures together. We even attended Friends of the Holy Spirit together, shared meals, and encouraged each other in our walk with God. As Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together....but encouraging one another.” Reflecting on this trip, it became clear that God used this experience to deepen our understanding of the importance of coming together as His people and revealed the beauty of God’s love through His body.
